Entry requirements
To be admitted to the selection tests, you must:
- be between 17 and 35 years old
- have successfully completed High School in the science section
- we recommend to have completed one academic year of university in a mathematics/physics field
To be admitted to the selection tests for the course, you must provide:
- a filled in registration form
- a proof of successful completion of high school education
- a Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- a legalised copy of Identity Card or Passport (for foreigners: a certificate of nationality)
- a Letter of Motivation of 20 lines maximum
- a certificate of non conviction
- a copy of the medical license JAR class 1 Belgium or Cameroon Civil Aviation
Authority(CCAA) class 1 medical (or a copy of the confirmation of the appointment for the medical examination (see below)
- information about financial planning.
Medical certificate
A Belgium JAR medical certificate class 1 is required for a Belgium JAR
pilot licence delivered by the Belgium civil aviation authority (BCAA).
To make an appointment for the JAR medical tests in Belgium: Send a registration

for practical reasons:
- If you don't have the certificate when registering for the selection, you
must provide a FAA class 1 medical or a CCAA class 1 medical
- If you have a medical certificate not issued by the CCAA, you should pass a
Cameroonian certificate except if there is an agreement with the relevant Civil Aviation organizations.

In both case, SFA-A will organize your JAR medical exam in Belgium at the end of the ground course.
If at the end of the whole process, you are unable to pass the Belgium JAR class
1 medical exams, your training will carry on but you will only get a Cameroonian licence.
Selection procedure
SFA-A's selection procedure will focus on 3 major fields of competence:
- Intellectual learning capacity (test English & test Physics)
- Future pilot skills / aptitude (psychometric test & simulator test)
- Personality / Motivation / psychological profile

Physics test
- Based on the knowledge required at the end of secondary education in the science section
- Holders of an academic degree are not exempted
- Contains 30 questions, of which 20 questions have to be solved correctly within 1h30min
- An applicant may re-apply 1 time, except if medically unfit.

Psychometric test
A psychometric test of 2 hours will be performed in English
The test consists of six tests which have been developed to check some of the
key aptitude areas for the pilot profession
No flying experience is required to perform well in the tests
- Control: A compensation task looking at basic hand/foot/eye co-ordination
- Slalom: A tracking task looking at hand/eye co-ordination
- Mathematics: A test of basic applied mathematical understanding and speed
- Memory: Accuracy of short-term memory recall and ability to 'chunk' information
- Task Manager: A test of the candidate's ability to scan the screen and manage concurrent tasks accurately and quickly
- Orientation: Instrument interpretation, comprehension and spatial orientation
Psychological test
The goal of this test is to make sure the candidate has the required profile to
be a future airline captain. It consists of a personality test, a personal interview
and a team work evaluation.
An English test - written and spoken
As all courses are given in English and as all aviation communications are performed
in English a good passive and active knowledge is required. In the 2 hour written
part we will test grammatical knowledge, vocabulary, writing skills and reading comprehension.
The spoken test takes 15 minutes.
Scan Skill test
This a special test performed in a flight simulator that will assess the
learning curve of the candidate. Prior flying experience is not required.
A final interview with all concerned parties
After this interview a decision will be taken if the candidate can become an SFA-A student.
